So many people have their own home coffee bar set up these days. Setting up my own home coffee bar was something that I had been wanting to do for a while. We live in a modest ranch style home that was built in 1968. It is brick home which is on the small side, especially when compared to homes being built these days. It is definitely not open and airy.
Finding the Perfect Space for your Home Coffee Bar
Trying to determine the space to set up your own home coffee bar may be tricky, depending on the size and design of your home. If you have a fairly large home, you probably have plenty of space. In smaller homes, if you do not have a spot against a wall in the kitchen or dining area, you may want to set aside space on your counter to set up a small coffee bar. You could take a nice sized tray, either wood or metal, and set up your coffee maker, a small basket with k-cups, and a few other essentials and it would look very inviting.
I had a space in the dining area of our home against a wall that would be perfect for my own home coffee bar. My kitchen and dining area could be considered one space. They are only separated by a counter halfway across the center that has cabinets hanging above. It forms a bit of a wall so to speak. With the other half open between the two areas. It makes it feel like the dining area is its own separate room. It’s big enough for a dining table and few other pieces of furniture against the walls. I have a curio cabinet in the corner. And there is space at the end of that wall, just before the hallway.
It is a perfect space for a home coffee bar. It is away from the sink area enough which makes it a bit more inviting of a place to put a home coffee bar. People can feel like it is a something they can help themselves to with out invading a persons kitchen.
Furniture Choices for Home Coffee Bars
There are lots of ideas when it comes to the piece of furniture to use for home coffee bars. I have an idea for a wood cart that I would like to make someday and use it for a home coffee bar. But picking out the furniture is going to be based a lot on your style and taste in furniture. Farmhouse is a biggie these days. You can up-cycle an old buffet and paint it to go with your decor. But if you are anything like I am… you tend to go with what you have already. It can save money if you can recycle something you already own and use it to create the perfect home coffee bar.
I had an old white wicker baker’s rack that I have had for a very long time sitting in that space. It is in excellent shape and it has had many different uses over the years. I’ve used it in the dining area and as display space when I was renting a booth in a craft mall. Once I closed the booth it had made its way to the basement or storage unit (I don’t remember which for sure.) But eventually made its way back into the dining area.
The problem with it was, it became a catchall. Do you have spaces in your home that seem to catch everything you don’t know what to do with? My counter can become like that if I am not careful, but this rack especially became that kind of space.
Prepping my Furniture Piece for our Home Coffee Bar
We (or I should say I) have been trying to clean stuff out of the basement to get rid of. Either selling it on local Facebook garage sale sights, giving it away, or throwing it away. I can’t tell you how many boxes of “stuff” I have carried away. And the sad thing is, it doesn’t look like I have even made a dent in what needs to be gone. Sigh…. Some day. That someday needs to happen soon as we would like to put our home on the market this year but there is still a ton of stuff to do before we are ready for that. But that is a story for another day.
Anyway, I would list something on one of the sale sights and then decided to use the bottom area of that baker’s rack to set it on until the time came that it sold. Well, you can probably guess what happened. I just kept adding to it more than I was taking away. It became a very bad eye sore. To the point I couldn’t take it anymore. So… I completely removed everything. Totally cleaned it off.
I wiped it down and touched up a few places on the main shelf with some white paint. It became the perfect backdrop for my vision of a home coffee bar. White. Wicker. I love white wicker. Now, to begin the process of setting everything up.

Home Coffee Bar Components
I started by putting our black Keurig coffee maker into position on the main shelf. I figured a Keurig coffee maker like this one is the best option for a home coffee bar. You have that option to make an individual cup of whatever you want to drink. Everyone does not have to drink the same thing with a Keurig. It uses k-cups to make individual cups for each person.
That was easy. But what now??? What all goes into a home coffee bar? I set about studying up on home coffee bars to determine what everyone includes in their home coffee bar.
My list of probabilities/possibilities:
- Coffee Maker
- K-Cups (various flavors)
- K-cup holder
- Creamer
- Sweetner
- Coffee Stirrers
- Marshmallows
- Coffee Mugs
- Coffee Mug Tree
- Greenery or florals of some kind
- Signs
- Favorite nick nacks, memorabilia, pottery, etc
Deeper Dive into Home Coffee Bar Components
So lets discuss some of the items on my list. We have already discussed the coffee maker. So let’s move on to the k-cups. There are a ton of flavor possibilities. My favorite flavor is Green Mountain Southern Pecan. My husbands drinks decaf and his favorite is Green Mountain Decaf Breakfast Blend. He also likes hot cider from time to time and I found Grove Square Cider Variety Pack and he loved them. We also wanted to include hot chocolate for when the grandkids come by. We went with these Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa. I’m sure you have your favorites.
We already had this k-cup holder so that is what I used. But there is also this one that I liked had I not already had one.
Coffee mugs or cups are a very important component. I used some mugs that I already had. I have had them so long I don’t even remember when I got them but I have always loved them. They are very similar to these but shaped slightly different. Use what ever you like best. I know these Rae Dunn mugs are popular but I don’t own even one piece of Rae Dunn dishes.
More Important Components to our Perfect Home Coffee Bar
A mug tree is a very important component of the perfect home coffee bar too. I discussed mug trees in this post. Take a look see at the one I choose.
We should also touch on that last item on my list. I went around my house looking for items to include in my home coffee bar to decorate and add character. You don’t need to go buy anything special for this part. I just used what I had in other areas of my home or even stuff that I had carted down stairs to store for another time such as this. Did you notice in the picture what my favorite color is? If not, I’ll tell you… Green. I really didn’t know it for a long time…. but my favorite color is green. It struck me one day when my husband was complaining that everything was green in our house. Walls, couch and love seat, dishes, everything… I didn’t even realize I was so attracted to all things green. Much to my husbands chagrin (he hates green).
I hope this helps you in getting your home coffee bar set up and picking out the perfect components for it.
Thanks for reading…. XOXO
